1. Hi Cutlass! Did you ever played anywhere before the establishing STICKOXYDAL? The band was established in summer 2003, a demo is ready in January, recording of a full CD was passing over after one year.
- Hi! Yes, I played in a local rap-core band, but it was not for a long time. Now, besides STICKOXYDAL, I play in an alternative-rock band and, in addition, I have plenty of brutal projects, which probably will be brought into life one day.
2. How old are you? You all look very young on the pictures.
- Oh, it’s a usual question for us; we have to answer it in every interview. I am 18, our bass-player is 19, vocalist is 20, and drummer is 21. I am the youngest one. When I made STICKOXYDAL I was 15.
3. What about living in Belarus? Your country is presented as the last European country with totalitarian regime here in Czechia. Have you been at March presidential election?
- Actually, I wouldn’t like to discuss this painful question, in other case this interview might become the last one for me. Make your own conclusions.
4. It is easy to shed and play grind core or if you like metal generally in Belarus according to your opinion? What about any repression, did it bear on you? Does any clearly grind label exist in your country, any bands like you?
- It is not difficult to play grind in Belarus, just nobody really understand and support it here. Belarussian metal scene is really poor. It is in full underground, it is still a baby. We have just a couple of bands and mostly they play melodic & progressive death metal, metal core and black metal. We have very small amount of grind bands. With ‘zines, magazines, labels, distros, metal radio broadcasts everything is even worse. I can tell that we almost don’t have any stuff like these. There are some guys who are trying to do something for our metal scene, but really a few of them. We have just one metal broadcast on a radio, one magazine, that actually hardly exists, a couple of web-zines. And there are no labels at all.
5. And what about concerts? Do you organize your own ones? Did you ever played outside Belorussia?
- Because of that fact, that grind is not wide spread here, we have concerts in Belarus very rarely and we haven’t organized any own ones, but we think about it. We mostly play outside our country - in Moldova, Russia, on the second of May we are going to play in Ukraine with your guys from CEREBRAL TURBULENCY. We are planning to have concerts in Poland and Czechia.
6. What did a legacy of Soviet Union give you to your life? :o)))))))
- I really can’t understand why we are asked this question in every interview!!! There is no more Soviet Union for pretty long period of time, and we don’t have anything good after it, and all bad things are forgotten long time ago. Czechia also has soviet past, so do you have any soviet legacy?!
7. Would you accept an offer to play on the occasion of a celebrating of Russian communists? :o)))))))))
- We don’t take part in any political, religious and other concerts like this. We play only to support grind core, underground and just for pleasure. We don’t ask people, which come to our concerts, what political convictions do they have. And, of course, we don’t call them up to anything but drinking beer and listening to grind core.
8. What is Belarusian folk drink? Is it also vodka?
- Oh yes! It is vodka! Vodka is the best health-bringing beverage! The main thing is to use it in a right way, but only we and russians know this way.
9. What alternative name did you have prepared for the sake of unless STICKOXYDAL?
- I don’t understand what did you mean. The only thing I can tell is that we didn’t have any other names, besides STICKOXYDAL.
10. Does it occur to you the worst name for a grind core band that what you ever meet with?
- Perhaps no. You are right, the worse is STICKOXYDAL.
11. How many promo discs did you distribute around the world beyond Bizzare Leprous took your recording?
- We got the proposal from BLP almost at ones, without having time to spread our promos around the word. We sent just 5 CDs!!!
12. Why it wasn't better to add yet extra two, three minutes of playing time and make this way a regular CD from „The Perverted Position…“? Or did you plan rather to take hold with a split CD first?
- We didn’t plan to do any splits. We just like short songs and albums that are not long. You don’t have time to become bored while listening to it. CD is short but you can listen it around many times.
13. Where a seriousness of you song names ends and a hoot begins? :o)
- There is nothing funny in the names of our songs. Everything is very cruel, harsh and serious. Isn’t it brutal: "Frequent desires to urination" or "Involuntary defecation". Just imagine, that it would happen with you!!!
14. Are you callous, would a live view of massacred human body obstruct to you?
- Oh no! Actually we are kind, soft and fluffy. This is just our drummer – he is callous and cool-headed medical student. He has to see such things, while a usual person would shit, get crazy and become dumb looking at.
15. Do you exactly have any lyrics? Do you consider something like that as a important in grind core?
- Yes, we do have lyrics and it is full of deep philosophic theories. In it we are turning over in our minds to the sense of life, existence, destiny of humanity, the infinity and substance. Just in order not to come out of gore grind borders we print another texts, full of blood and massacred human body. We thought a lot about what is the main in grind. I have a deep faith, that the main thing is true friendship, tender love; sweet kisses under the moon and honest work for your homeland!
16. Your music is marked as a mix of CBT and GUT. Are you glad of GUT's comeback? What is your opinion of a fact that they have got money out from pop/rockers with LIQUIDO so now they are ready to get them out from grinders again?
- Yes, I am really glad because of the GUT’s come back. But the way they earn there money is there own business. Everybody has his own sources of getting money. It doesn’t mean, that they forgot how to make grind, I just think that they probably disappointed in underground, but it is there business.
17. What covers do you play, prepare in the nearest time and why?
- We made covers on Pichismo and Offspring, but we don’t play them for a long time. Now we play mix-cover on 2 COCK AND BALL TORTURE songs and 2 ones of SQUASH BOWELS, all this stuff is mix in one song. Also we have a cover on Rage Against the Machine. Recently we have recorded cover for ANAL CUNT tribute, and now we are working on a cover for BLOOD tribute. The main reason for making covers is tributes, in which we are invited to take part.
18. Do you know any grind core band that doesn't play live and recorded any cover?
- No, neither me, nor my colleagues know such bands, but I am sure, that there are some.
19. What do you think about grinders who subscribed their souls to God? Do they have a chance for better living? :o)))
- It might be, at least there is no need to dissuade them from this thought. Let them believe in better, if they want to. In any case they won’t be able to hide from the excruciating agony after death.
20. Can you describe how does your rehearsing room look like? :o) Thanks for this interview!!!
- If you hope to hear, that in the middle of the room there is a table with a circular saw, the floor is covered with the rests of human body and walls are dashed with blood and pus, you will be disappointed. There is nothing like that. We have a very usual room with usual poor soviet amplifiers, broken drumset and hoarse guitar and bass cabinets. Thank you for your questions. Listen to a Belarusian grind core!
